Typography Portrait CompetitionDate: 26th November 2016
The Year 9 Art and Design students have been studying the theme of portraiture since the start of September. As a part of their development work, they were set a brief to create a portrait of an iconic figure, using only typography! Students responded enthusiastically by researching quotes and lyrics by their chosen famous person. The most successful portraits focused on accurate scale and proportion, and incorporated a wide range of different fonts and handwriting styles. The Art and Design department were very impressed with all of the entries; “It was particularly interesting to see who the pupils had chosen to base their portrait on”. The pupils at King David High School have been inspired by a variety of iconic figures, from Martin Luther King to Taylor Swift. Thank you to all the students who entered the competition and congratulations to the winners! 1st place - Martin Luther King by Susie Greenberg 2nd Place - Taylor Swift by Hadassah Schwinger 3rd place - Cleopatra by India Power Top: Adele by Debbie Bitan; Anne Frank by Millie Berkeley; Cleopatra by India Power Middle: Emma Watson by Sarah Raisman; Martin Luther King by Susie Greenberg; Severus Snape by Beila Parissi Bottom: Taylor Swift by Hadassah Schwinger; Walt Disney by Jessica Simons |
