Maths Holiday Homework – Years 7 to 10

It is important that you
  1. Catch up on any missed work.
  2. Have a decent set of notes of all the work done during lockdown.
  3. Do extra work on topics you have struggled with - use MyMaths, Mathswatch or the online textbooks.  It is especially important for Year 10 to be as prepared as you can be for your GCSE year and your teachers will have advised you on this.
  4. Make a list of what you really still can't do at the end of lockdown – that you can pass on to your teacher in September.  It should be specific.
  5. HAVE A REALLY GOOD REST.
Some additional things you can do to keep your brain cells ticking over…
All ages and abilities

The excellent Royal institution Christmas lectures presented last year were on a mathematical theme, delivered wonderfully by Dr Hannah Fry. Some of our Year 9 and 10 students saw her a few weeks ago at the Maths Inspiration show on YouTube.

Year 7- 9: Parallel Maths Project.

An excellent set of weekly Maths challenges set according to year group.  This is really for those students who are looking to get grades 9 and 8 at GCSE.  It is highly recommended if you are keen!   Sign up as a student and add the following teacher code:  rwi6v6
In term time you will be sent new challenges every Thursday.  Over the holidays you can choose to work on some of the earlier ones or just try the Summer Sums challenges.
The website has been produced by Simon Singh, a well known author who has written popular books such as the Simpson’s and Their Mathematical Secrets, among others.  His books would be of interest to keen students aged about 14+.  They also make a good adult read!

Maths Challenge papers:
Some Y7 and 8 students missed the Junior Maths Challenge this year.  The questions at the end would challenge most Y9 students!  Here is the link to the Question paper:

Here is the link to the solutions including some extension questions.

Year 10
You will have mocks in January which will test all the Maths you know.  Make sure you do revision of any content you know you are not strong in.  Then you can always pick some tasks from the Y7-9 list.
