Our Work

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the world’s leading achievement award for young people.

King David High School works with JLGB to give every child the opportunity to complete their DofE programme.  The JLGB is the only Jewish Licensed Organisation in the UK and they ensure that all expeditions are not only safe and successful but fully kosher and avoid Shabbat.

What's Involved?

To achieve your DofE, you will need to complete four different sections:
  • Volunteering - Anything that helps the community (e.g.: helping at a care home or running a fundraising project)
  • Physical - Anything that gets you moving … from archery to yoga.
  • Skills - Discover a new skill or develop an existing talent (e.g. playing a musical instrument or learning survival skills)
  • Expedition - A two day, one night (for bronze) expedition planned by you, during which you will be totally self-sufficient. You will be trained for this, and will have a practice expedition a few weeks before you are assessed to make sure you are ready

DofE is split into three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. You can start the Bronze in year 9 or can move straight to Silver in year 10 or Gold at the age of 16.

How we do it?

Each week during lunchtimes (from January onwards) the participants will have training sessions in school with the JLGB DofE Northern Coordinator who will help to train and prepare them for the expedition section.

All the dates for expeditions have been agreed for 2013 and the very best care has been taken to avoid any clashes with exams or other school activities.
