Welcome to the Exams Office

Public exams can be a stressful time for students and parents/carers and it is important that all those involved are as well informed as possible. The school will make every effort to ensure that our students receive the best possible preparation for their exams, that the administrative arrangements run smoothly, and that exams are conducted in a way that will cause as little stress as possible and help our students achieve their best.

We have included some useful information here together with the school's External Exam Booklet and official Exam Board notices. Please don't hesitate to contact us during school hours if you have any queries.

A-Level and GCSE Timeline:
March to June 2021

GCSE

Exams  [approx 4 weeks]  - exams will be spread over approx 4 weeks and we will try to leave one [non-exam] revision day between each exam day.

w/c  1st March  --  lessons
w/c  8th March --  lessons
w/c 15th March – lessons
w/c 22nd March – lessons    [3 days]

w/c 29th March -   CLOSED for Pessach.   Pupils should commence revision during the Pessach holidays

w/c 5th April --     lessons ‘wrap up’   [3 days]
w/c 12th April –   revision
w/c 19th April –  EXAMS
w/c 26th April – EXAMS
w/c 3rd May –    EXAMS
w/c 10th May  -- EXAMS
w/c 17th May – Marking  [3 days]
w/c 24th May – Marking
w/c 31st may  --  CLOSED
w/c 7th June -   Moderation
w/c 14th June – Moderation

After their Exams, Year 11 will have the usual  ‘taster days’ in preparation for Sixth Form and there may be additional teaching sessions to help make up for lost teaching time over the lockdown period.

EXAM results will be the primary indicator of the final grade.  But, where teachers feel and have supporting evidence that the results are less good than the pupil merits [because they demonstrated a much higher standard during the academic year] the school may UPGRADE the results.   The reverse will not apply i.e. the school will not downgrade Exam results.

This means that students have every opportunity to prove that they deserve the highest grades.

GCSE: Roll of Honour

An OUTSTANDING set of results and we are so pleased for pupils and teachers. We must emphasise that although we publish a list of best performers [because we have to compete with schools in the independent sector and show that, pupil for pupil, they do just as well at KD], we value all our pupils and celebrate all their achievements equally. In a comprehensive school, there are pupils who may have been awarded lower grades but, very often, their achievement deserves just as much [if not more] praise and congratulations. We are very proud of all our pupils and their accomplishments

Joshua Rowe, Chair of Governors
