On Sunday Feb
13th, 31 Students and 4 members of staff set
off for Amsterdam, Holland, to take on their
international peers in 3 Football fixtures.
After our overnight ferry crossing - an
experience in its self! we went on a canal
cruise around Amsterdam taking in all the
sights of the city. We then transferred to
our Hostel and began preparations for our
1st Fixture against Blauw Zwart on arrival
with were treated to excellent facilities
playing at the 1st team's floodlit ground -
The Y9 team played brilliantly winning 9-1,
the Y10 team, after a slow start, played
well also but were defeated 3-2. We returned
to Amsterdam to visit Pizza & Co a Kosher
Pizzeria - who stayed open an hour late for
us as we were delayed and they laid on some
fantastic food for us, after a good feed it
was back to the hostel for some much needed
sleep!
Tuesday brought the much awaited tour of the
Amsterdam Arena, Home to Ajax FC, we spent 2
fantastic hours touring the stadium, museum
and also holding our own mock press
conference. After this we made the long
journey to PSV Poortugal, Rotterdam, again
we were hosted in fantastic surroundings and
again this spurred our boys to 2 further
excellent performances - the Y9 Team won 5-1
the Y10 team were unfortunate to be defeated
6-3 where a couple of late goals gave our
hosts a much more flattering score-line.
After this is was back to Amsterdam where Ha
Carmel, a kosher restaurant, provided the
boys with much needed burger, chips and
salad washed down with coca cola and then it
was back to bed.
Thursday started in very humbling
circumstances as the tour party visited the
Anne Frank museum, the behaviour and respect
shown by the boys was most impressive - even
more so when everyone recognised our very
own Mrs Bernstein!
Afterwards it was on to the Tikipool, an
indoor water park, where the boys took full
of the Jacuzzi to rejuvenate tired muscles
and enjoy numerous water slides.
Unfortunately the Jacuzzi could only do so
much as both team were this time defeated by
the strongest opponents of the tour,
Meerburg FC, no surprise when we found out
the were an academy club. Despite the
defeat, spirits remained high as we headed
back to our friends at the pizzeria, before
retiring back to our hostel for some much
needed sleep! After a few hours sleep we
began the journey back to Manchester, with
everyone in high spirits following an
excellent 1st King David Football Tour. The
boys were impeccably behaved throughout and
a credit to the school and their families -
it made organising and leading the tour such
a pleasure. |
