May saw the first Manchester
Schools Squash competition
serve up as a big success.
5 schools from across the
Manchester area competed in
the competition following a
10 week block of coaching
linking in with local squash
clubs from across the area
including the National
Squash Centre, Chorlton
Leisure Centre, Cheetham
Hill and Moss Side.
The tournament, which was
the first of its kind in the
area, targeted year 7 pupils
and saw 5 teams entering
including East Manchester
Academy, Trinity High
School, Wright Robinson,
King David High School and
Manchester Academy and
with the top three teams
automatically gaining entry
to the North West Schools
Competition a lot was at
stake. The 5 Teams which
were mixed played each other
once before the final was
decided.
The Final itself saw East
Manchester Academy and King
David School fight it out
for top spoils, with
both teams showing a
tremendous amount of
ability, effort and skill.
East Manchester Academy just
managed to edge out King
David High School in what
was a hard fought final and
come out overall winners
with a final score of 3-2.
Chris Lengthorn the
Manchester’s Head Coach told
us that ‘It was great to
see all these players and
schools participating in the
event and really shows that
participation in squash is
once again on the increase”
This event was co-ordinated
with the Head of Boys' PE
