British Jews During World War I

28/11/2018

King David High School hosted an evening of commemoration of the Jewish NW men and women who served in WWI. This evening was attended by the Lord Mayor of Manchester and Bury and other local dignitaries. Dr.Hitching presented new insight to the experience for North West Jewish men and women and readings from Jewish trench diarists, letters, poetry and newspapers illustrated the extraordinary contribution made by national Jewry.

Charlie Silvert from Y12 opened the readings with a 1914 editorial from the Jewish Chronicle which urged men and women to volunteer for service as loyal Britons and Jews.

Juvenes Translatores

22/11/2018

Students from the Sixth Form entered the annual ‘Juvenes Translatores’ languages competition.

The prestigious ‘Juvenes Translatores’ contest was started in 2007 to find the best young translators in the Europe. With studies showing the ever-growing need for translation and translators across the continent, the competition aims to raise awareness of the importance of translation skills and the need to reassess translation — as a means of ‘mediating’ between languages — in the context of language learning.

King David was one of a small number of UK schools selected to take part in the competition. The school would like to thank Jacob Rudolph, Ruben Burton, Theo Cosky, Jade Wagman, Amy Brown and Alicia Chapman for their enthusiasm, hard work and excellent translations.
