Mission Statement

We are devoted to imparting scientific knowledge, understanding and skills to our pupils to give them a broad appreciation of the applications and implications of science and to prepare them for further study in higher education. The science department offers a diverse range of courses to pupils as they progress to allow them to develop according to their individual needs and enable them to fulfil their potential.
 
Department Focus
    KS3 In years 7-9 pupils follow a rigorous program of study monitored via continual written assessments in line with the Department for Education’s Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) national strategy. Ontop of continual assessment pupils sit annual Winter and Summer SATS style exams.  
       
    KS4 Starting after Pesach year 9 pupils begin studying for one of the following science courses:
  • AQA GCSE: Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Separates)
  • AQA GCSE: Core & Additional Science (Dual award)
  • AQA GCSE: Core & Additional Applied Science (Dual award)
  • Edexcel: BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science (GCSE equivalent)
 
    KS5 Pupils staying on in the sixth can study the following science courses:
  • AQA AS/A Level GCE Biology
  • AQA AS/A Level GCE Chemistry
  • AQA AS/A Level GCE Physics
  • OCR Advanced GCE in Applied Science
  • OCR Advanced GCE in Applied Science (Double Award)
 
       
Activities Science Club An exciting opportunity for eager pupils in years 7-9 to advance their interest in investigative science through experiment. Held once a week during lunchtime.  
       
  Nature Photography Club A Nature Photography group for all year groups. Pupils submit nature themed photographs and each half term a winning photo is chosen from the entries. The best photographs are printed and displayed on a board in the school, on the school website and weekly newsletter.
