Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9)
Year 7
– following Year 1 of the ICT 4 Life scheme
This is an exciting introduction and challenging course for pupils
entering the school. It allows pupils to get to grips with a range of
software, whilst applying preliminary industry-standard computing
practices and considering some of the challenges that technology brings
to the modern world. All work is undertaken in simulated environments
in modules, which include topics such as:
Pupils will also be given the opportunity to gain Entry level
qualifications.
Year 8
– following the Year 2 of the ICT 4 Life scheme
A
natural progression from Year 7, building upon skills learnt and also
introducing new software and concepts, such as web design and system
development design. Module topics include:
Year 9
– as from the academic year (GCSE), pupils will be offered the
following pathways in ICT:

Route A:
the majority of pupils will commence a 2-year GCSE ICT course.

Route B:
some pupils may choose not to start the GCSE ICT course in Year 9,
but defer entry until Year 10, following a Functional Skills for one
year. Again, details can be found at the
Key Stage 4 section.

Route C:
some pupils may choose to follow the OCR Nationals Level 2 First
Award, which is a non-examinable pathway equivalent to one GCSE.
They may also have the opportunity to progress to the Level 2
National Award, which is the equivalent to two GCSEs. Further

- Route D:
some pupils may prefer to work towards the Functional Skills
qualification at Key Stage 4.
